Majoring in Studio Art, Susan K. Burgess earned a B.A. from
Boston College (Newton College) in the mid-1960’s,
followed by 30 graduate credits in Education at Rhode Island
College. Since then, she has been taking workshops in watercolor,
pastel and oil painting from such artists as Peter London,
Frank Federico, Paul George, Charlotte Britton, and Carl
Dalio in her native coastal New England, Mexico, California,
New Mexico and Italy.
Her work experience includes a year’s apprenticeship
with liturgical artist Ade Bethune, five years of designing
and teaching the elementary art curriculum of public schools
in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and 17 years in aspects
of administration of a world-class museum. Currently, she directs
an enrichment program for elders in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Although noted in an occasional award, publication, or media interview,
Burgess only began exhibiting her work on a regular basis in the 1990’s,
Her work can be seen in solo and member shows at Marblehead Arts
Association and the Cloister Gallery in Marblehead and at other
locations in Boston and the North Shore. (Please see Shows for current
schedule). Her paintings are in over 75 private and public collections
in the United States and abroad.
Burgess also teaches painting in private and group lessons.
